Fire, Talk to Me
Mr. Martin returns to the school where Janet and the other spirits confront him for his actions. Nicole, Claire and Xavier learn more about the incident that killed Janet and Mr. Martin. And multiple spirits have the opportunity to cross over.

Mr. Martin Returns to School
Mr. Martin wants to take Janet and leave the school. He returns to the cafeteria where he’s confronted by who he thinks is Janet in Maddie’s body, Rhonda, Charlie and Wally. They question him about everything they found in his notes about trapping them in their scars, so he and Janet could manufacture enough energy to break the barrier surrounding the school. He tries to grab Janet only to find out it's Maddie and he can’t actually touch her.

When he taunts them about not being able to touch him, Simon shows up behind him to try to stop him. He’s able to fight off Simon, but Janet in Maddie’s body stops him. They tie up Mr. Martin to a chair on a stage and allow Mr. Anderson to confront him about his actions in both life and the afterlife. Mr. Anderson condemns Mr. Martin for putting his hands on a student. Mr. Martin falls off the stage and Mr. Anderson gets his body back. He leaves with Diego, Nicole’s brother, car and gives police information about Maddie.
Learning About the Fire
After returning from the cabin, Nicole and Claire decide to go to the nursing home where Janet’s old classmate, Eugene Bergstrom, lives. He told investigators at the time of her death that he believed Mr. Martin started the fire to kill Janet but authorities and news reporters all dismissed him and wrote the fire off as an accident. After Xavier joins them, Claire and Nicole find an old video of the interviews and watch through old technology to learn more.

After hearing Eugene’s claims, they rush to the school to relay the information to Simon, Maddie, Janet and anyone else there. They arrive just as Janet leaves Maddie’s body but before Maddie re-enters it. They claim Mr. Martin killed Janet because her father got him fired as a teacher, but their claims cause Mr. Martin to grab Janet and flee into the scars. Rhonda, Charlie, Wally, Yuri and Quinn head into the scars to save Janet. Left with a choice, Maddie chooses to rush into the scars to help the spirits leaving her body laying lifeless on the ground.
Into the Scars
As the spirits head into the scars, they must all face some of the worst moments of their lives again in the afterlife, the moments that led up to their deaths. They reach through all of their worst moments so they can save their friend and face the man who they thought was their friend but was actually their torturer. The big moment in the scars comes as Wally leads his team through the football field. Charlie, someone who definitely didn’t care about sports in life, comes up with a big moment when Wally fumbles the football that serves as Wally’s key to his scar. Charlie recovers it and rushes down the field until he can toss a pass to the end zone where Wally catches it. It allows the five spirits to rush through.

Meanwhile, Maddie experiences her own scar despite not having died. She’s trapped in water in the school as she sees her dad drowning. Then her mother tries to keep her in the water until Wally pulls her to safety. They catch up to Janet and Mr. Martin where Martin admits he wasn’t trying to kill Janet. He admits to attempting suicide using gas in the science lab but had second thoughts and turned off the gas line. He was going to open a window when Janet came in to work with fire for an experiment. That small fire mixed with the gas caused the big fire that killed them.
An exit opens allowing Janet the opportunity to cross over. However, recognizing that she deserved more in both life and afterlife: her father and the time she lived holding women back and Mr. Martin torturing her in the scars, so she decides not to leave yet. She has unfinished business. The spirits lock Mr. Martin in his scar and try to get Maddie back to her body.
Maddie Returns
During this time, Xavier had to call 911 for Maddie. She’s at the edge of the property, but emergency workers are about to take her body away. After saying goodbye to her spirit friends, she makes a rush to jump into her body. Lights start flashing in the school and Xavier notices and turns around just like the spirits. Maddie makes a jump and then the screen flashes to a white light.

Maddie wakes up in the hospital with her mother at her side. Claire, Nicole and Xavier stop in to see her. She asks where Simon is and the girls go to get her. Xavier apologizes for any pain he caused her when he was cheating on her before she disappeared. Maddie’s father pops in to make sure she woke up. Xavier turns around and confirms she’s all right and then has to explain that he can see the ghosts in the hospital, including her dad.
Teasing Season 3
The next day, Janet, Rhonda, Quinn, Charlie and Yuri are trying to figure out what happened the previous night when the lights started flashing. They are wondering if Maddie will remember them since she’s no longer stuck in the school. They also wonder where Wally is at this time, but he’s in his scar getting ready to face his former team again. But this time, the team isn’t there and the doorway back to school flashes white offering him an exit.

Janet heads down to Mr. Martin’s scar to grill him more about their situation and everything that happened while they were possessing other bodies. She tells him she has questions and he says so does he and asks why he has company. The camera pans to reveal Simon in Mr. Martin’s scar asking “Where’s Maddie?”
Rating
This season delivered some of the strongest television on Paramount Plus. The plot, the character development, Janet’s arc, Mr. Martin’s definitive heel turn, Simon’s struggles, Xavier learning about spirits, it hit on almost every turn. The introductions of Quinn and Yuri helped provide character growth for both Charlie and Rhonda that fully fleshed them out as characters. But where does it go from here?
How did Simon end up in Mr. Martin’s scar? Does Wally cross over? What’s next for Janet and Mr. Martin? So many questions following such a great season should mean a season three, but the series hasn’t been renewed yet. That’s not necessarily a bad sign. Strictly streaming series tend to have longer waits on hearing about renewals. School Spirits didn’t even get a second season renewal until two months after the season one finale aired. It’s too soon to fret, but this series deserves a third season.
