Sad farnsby

Sam and Jay are forced to bond with the Farnsbys in ways they never expected to try to ensure Jay’s restaurant gets off the ground. Meanwhile, Isaac and Nigel have it out over Sam’s intended wedding present.

Jay’s Restaurant

Jay and Mark want to get to work on their restaurant, but Mr. Farnsby continues to be a thorn in their side. He’s a stickler for town ordinances and won’t let construction begin too early or carry on too late. Sam tries to talk to Mrs. Farnsby to get her to talk to Mr. Farnsby about loosening up the restrictions. However, when she mentions a book that Pete suggests, it causes Mrs. Farnsby to leave in a huff. Later that night, Mr. Farnsby checks into the Woodstone Manor because Mrs. Farnsby kicked him out.

Mr. Farnsby isn’t sure what caused the issue, and instead, tries to talk other guests out of marriage while sadly strumming songs on the guitar. Jay grabs his guitar and jams with him and Mark accidentally reveals they used the wrong size piping. Mr. Farnsby is now loosening his stance though, because he and Jay are “jam bros.”

Unfortunately, Mrs. Farnsby reveals it was Sam that made her realize he wasn’t treating her right, so Mr. Farnsby is now back to his anal retentive ways and ready to shut down Jay and Mark. Thorfin steps up and learns from his son, who is a ghost at the Farnsbys, that Mr. Farnsby forgot an important anniversary. Jay and Sam set up a surprise dinner for both to play matchmaker only to learn it was the anniversary of when they became swingers. Sam and Jay are disgusted, but Mr. Farnsby is less anal and lets the wrong size piping go.

Isaac and Nigel

In the B plot, Sam’s wedding gift to Isaac and Nigel has arrived, a dinosaur bed. Isaac loves it; however, word gets back to Nigel in the shed that it was a wedding gift, and he would like it moved. Isaac relents, allowing Nigel to take the bed to the shed but wants it back. He learns when he arrives, he learns that Nigel gifted the bed to Baxter and Carol who actually got married that night when Isaac left Nigel at the altar. (We get an appearance by Baxter but not Carol, and I’m glad because I’m sick of her ghost character. She was better as a living we rarely saw.)

During their argument, Nigel reveals the bed doesn’t make sense because it doesn’t have the right number of teeth. Isaac realizes the knowledge Nigel has is way too specific for someone who died before dinosaurs were discovered and hadn’t shown a great interest in the animals when they were together. Nigel admits he doesn’t care about dinosaurs but learned about them because Isaac does. It was supposed to be his wedding present to Isaac. This moves Isaac who works on being friends with Nigel. The episode ends with Sam getting Isaac a dinosaur lamp that she thinks will be a bad present when he interrupts her and Jay together to have her turn it on.

Rating

After a disappointing episode six, the laughs were back for episode seven. The Farnbsy storyline was one of the most enjoyable I’ve seen from them. They are decent antagonists for Sam and Jay and seeing them as the antithesis to Sam and Jay who are very monogamous and the Farnsbys who love their swinging lifestyle is always fun.

Meanwhile, I hope this serves as the resolution to the Isaac and Nigel storyline. If they aren’t together, I don’t need to see them interacting very often. Obviously, they still should since they are stuck on the property together, but this needs to be the end of the focus on them as a couple. It was a good run and dreary Nigel was fun, but they should have closure now. Still, this was a good rebound after what I consider one of the worst episodes of the series last week.
