Alexander Hamilton and the Ruffle Kerfuffle
After four seasons, Sir Isaac Higgentoot finally reveals the history behind his rivalry with Alexander Hamilton. Meanwhile, Hetty’s ex-husband, Elias, returns trying to convince one of the ghosts to return to Hell with him.

Alexander Hamilton
After the previous visit from the mafia, Jay’s restaurant is struggling. Jay keeps focusing on things, being unable to let go, which leads into Isaac revealing the history of his hatred for Alexander Hamilton. Isaac always insisted that Hamilton had wronged him, and his retelling demonstrates how Hamilton did wrong him but his inability to let it go caused him to miss out on history. Isaac was supposed to attend a dinner party at John Jay’s house as they worked on the Declaration of Independence. However, the neck ruffle he intended to pick up was gone from the shop right after Hamilton left.

Isaac had to borrow a much too big ruffle to make his point which proved to be distracting to the founding fathers. However, Alexander Hamilton walked into the party wearing a ruffle awfully similar to the one Isaac had reserved. Isaac spent much of the party trying to get Hamilton to admit to it. In the end, Isaac’s actions accidentally lead to the first draft of the document being destroyed and the Founding Fathers kick him out. He gives an impassioned speech containing the phrase “the pursuit of happiness.” Pete is able to show him that phrase made it into the Declaration securing Isaac a place in history.
Elias and Blackmail
While some of the ghosts are in the restaurant as Isaac explains to Sam, and Jay through Sam, about his hatred of Alexander Hamilton, Elias Woodstone has returned to the mansion and is seeking a soul to return to Hell. He approaches Hetty, Trevor, Alberta and Thorfin and says if one of them returns with him, they will get to be in the part of Hell he’s in where you get to torture others instead of being tortured. He claims if they wait to be taken, they will end up being tortured. The ghosts start worrying, especially Thorfinn since he was a Viking known for pillaging other cultures, especially Danes.

Thorfinn appears ready to give up his soul to Elias, but the other three ghosts jump in to stop him. They point out the actions he’s taken in the afterlife that have been good. They hint that more time as a ghost can allow him to perform more good acts that may help ensure he doesn’t “go down” on them. In the end, Elias returns to Hell without his soul, however he’s seen meeting with Jay at the end of the episode, so who knows what may happen at this point.
rating
For all we’ve heard about Isaac’s feud with Hamilton, it was a disappointing delivery. While I expected it to be something small that Isaac blew out of proportion, I just didn’t care about how they did it. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I just didn’t care. I appreciated the Elias storyline better than the Isaac storyline. I want to know more about his interaction with Jay, plus how he can make things harder for the other ghosts.
