Circe reveals that Princess Ilana may be responsible for the destruction of the entire planet if she isn’t stopped, but Gen. Flag doesn’t believe her. Meanwhile, the Bride and Nina continue to bond and Weasel’s tragic backstory is revealed.

Destroying the Planet
After capturing the Amazonian sorceress, Circe, in Pokolistan, the team heads back home so Amanda Waller and her team can begin questioning. Research has shown Circe to be clairvoyant and unable to use this power to manipulate what she sees. Waller allows Circe to show her the future. It’s a dire future with many members of the Justice League and Suicide Squad (Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman and Peacemaker among others) killed and Princess Ilana leading the way, aligned with Gorilla Grodd.

This vision leads to a split between Amanda Waller and General Flag. Waller decides to send the Creature Commandos back to Pokolistan to take out the princess. Flag is opposed to this idea as he doesn’t believe they can trust Circe’s visions. Flag quits the team and tries, in vain, to warn the princess. Of course, someone is watching him for a completely different reason.
Frankenstein vs. Flag
Eric Frankenstein arrives at Flag’s home and attacks him. Having seen the Bride and Flag talking to each other following the Pokolistan mission, Frankenstein is convinced Flag and the Bride are in a relationship. Meanwhile, Flag thinks Frankenstein is attacking him because of his interactions with Princess Ilana.

While Frankenstein has the clear strength advantage, Gen. Flag uses his military training to get into a better position and win the hand-to-hand combat. Flag explains that he and the Bridge aren’t in a relationship, but they can work together toward a common goal.
The Bride Bonds with Nina
Back in Belle Reve, the Creature Commandos find they are back to just being lowly prisoners after being heroes during the mission to Pokolistan. A pair of Belle Reve inmates who look like a gorilla and a bat try to bully Nina and take her food. The Bride stands up for friend and uses the lunch tray to essentially decapitate the gorilla (named in the credits as Congorilla).

Dr. Phosphorus takes Nina’s tray back from the bat-lady (who looks like she may be Nosferata) and the trio look to go eat when they are called away for their next mission with The Bride as the leader of the Creature Commandos.
Weasel’s Backstory
Interspersed throughout the story is a look at Weasel’s history that landed him in Belle Reve. Gen. Flag has referenced the allegations that he killed children. However, when they return from Pokolistan, Weasel’s lawyer is there to talk with him as she believes he’s innocent.

The flashbacks show that Weasel was living near a school and befriended a group of children who would feed him and play with him while at recess. One day a man noticed Weasel and called the cops on him. Meanwhile, the kids wander into the school’s basement where the man fires his gun, starting a fire.
Several of the kids and the man die in the fire, however when police arrive Weasel is trying to rescue one of the kids. Police shoot at him until he drops the girl who dies from her injuries. The officers then take Weasel into custody where he’s sent to Belle Reve.

The flashback proves Weasel’s innocence. However, he’s unable to relay this information to anyone because he can’t actually speak. When the team heads back to Pokolistan, Weasel sleeps on the plane and his dreams are haunted by these memories. But when Nina asks what the team thinks Weasel is dreaming about, the Bride just says “chasing squirrels.”
Rating
Both of the characters voiced by James Gunn’s brother, Sean Gunn, in this series have now received tragic backstories. While G.I. Robot, at least, got to go out believing he had found his purpose, Weasel doesn’t get nearly as good of treatment. This is the kind of storytelling that makes the viewers get behind the characters they are supposed to support.
While the past is tragic, the present is just kind of meh. Gen. Flag has a good relationship with Princess Ilana, complete with physical interaction, so it’s understandable why he would have a hard time believing the sorceress they were initially sent to capture. However, it’s also understandable why Amanda Waller would be willing to do whatever she can to ensure the future she saw doesn’t happen. I understand both motivations, I just don’t care too much about some of the other characters, yet.

Meanwhile, I’m very intrigued about the potential future. Obviously, we won’t see a DCU where Superman, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Batman and many others are killed off, but I want to see if they get to a point where the battle that could’ve led to that future is on the table. Is Gorilla Grodd the first big bad of this new DCU? Will he have mind control powers over Princess Ilana or is she a willing participant? These are good questions that comic book fans would like to see answered.
