Can’t Say I Remember No At Attin

Fern, Neel, Wim, KB and Captain Silvo head to the coordinates provided by Kh'ymm, but when they arrive, they learn they aren’t at At Attin but a similar planet that was considered a “crown jewel” of the Old Republic.

At Achrann

The Skeleton Crew may be searching for At Attin, but the coordinates take them to the planet of At Achrann. It looks very similar to their home planet, but the four kids feel unsettled by what they see. It’s not a bustling Utopia like At Attin. Schools are destroyed. Plants are covering homes. And they are ambushed by a group of kids who ask them “what flag do they fly?”

Another group of warriors come through and the two groups of kids hide together. The two kids, who represent a group called the Troyks, take the four back to their base where they meet the leader of the Troyks who trains them for battle. As they head out for the fight, they don’t see the opposing warriors, known as the Hattans, but find Silvo/Jod and SM-33 waiting for them instead of warriors.

While training, Neel bonds with Hyna, one of the two kids that ambushed them and the leader’s daughter. There seems to be a budding romance but when the kids learn about the Fallen Sanctum that may have clues about At Attin, Neel is ready to leave. He invites Hyna to join them for a better life, but she can’t leave her people behind.

Fallen Sanctum

The Skeleton Crew makes its way to the Fallen Sanctum, which is just the equivalent of the Supervisor tower on At Attin, where they learn about the Old Republic crown jewels and see the coordinates for each. Neel finds the pillar focusing on At Atting but the coordinates are destroyed. SM-33 says he remembers being at this location and destroying the coordinates but has no memory of any At-Attin.

Fern remembers how she used to trick her droid at home and finds a way to get SM-33 to override the programming that doesn’t allow him to remember At-Attin. As he recalls his memories of what he did when destroying the coordinates, he also remembers that his captain told him to kill anyone who comes looking for the coordinates. Silvo/Jod jumps into action and turns the droid off before it can kill Fern. The Skeleton Crew now needs a new plan for getting back home.

Rating

This episode was a mixed bag but most of the mix fell on the good side of the coin. Skeleton Crew is a kid-centric show, so there’s going to be some bad acting and some bad decisions that don’t work well for adults watching. The kids’ level of naiveté crosses into absurd levels to advance the plot at some points. Yes, kids will make some of these decisions due to their lack of exposure to the world in general, but some of the decisions are so wild that it doesn’t make sense even for a kid to decide.

In contrast, this planet introduced the Troyks, a group of fighters who have created a child army for their seemingly never ending war with the Hattans. That is one of the darkest elements ever introduced in live action Star Wars. The Troyks are incredibly French-coded and the interactions are something that can be seen in the real world. That’s dark but excellent storytelling.
