Todd's Mom
Mandy makes a new friend at the diner who helps her get back into the social scene after giving birth. Meanwhile, Georgie has more in common with Mandy’s friend’s son than her, leading to more troubles for the star-crossed pair.
Mandy’s New Friend
After taking a job at a local diner, Mandy struggles with her time apart from her baby and not going out with friends. After all, she’s only in her early 30s at this point and wants to go out and have fun. Georgie makes it easier for her to bond with one of her coworkers, Beth, who is recently single due to divorce. The pair spend the night at a bar, allowing Mandy to experience life with someone other than her parents, her husband or her daughter.
While Beth is excellent for Mandy’s mental health at first, she accidentally creates a problem when Mandy brings Georgie over to meet Beth. Everyone who sees Georgie and Mandy together comments on the age difference, however Beth’s son’s comments end up cutting more than most. Beth’s son recognizes Georgie from high school. It’s clear this is a major problem for Mandy as her husband is only slightly older than Beth’s son.
Georgie Grows Up
At first, it seems like Georgie’s immaturity is shining through. When Beth’s son wants to ride dirt bikes, the still very young Georgie wants to go. Mandy tries to stop him which leads to a mother-son dynamic between the married couple. This causes more trouble for Mandy who doesn’t want to have two children. Of course, Georgie ends up showing wisdom beyond his years when he’s out riding dirt bikes.
Beth’s son’s friends have alcohol and Georgie advises them not to drink while riding. They won’t listen, but he insists they at least eat something to coat their stomachs so they don’t get too drunk. Eventually, Georgie is shown dropping off the younger teens. One of them even calls him Mr. Cooper which leads to frustration from Georgie. He tells the teens he wants them to just call him Georgie and the teen responds by calling him sir.
Mandy and Georgie Recognize Change
During another night out with Beth, Mandy discovers what she hates about the social scene. Beth quickly leaves her to go hook up with a stranger who ends up being Mandy’s dentist. Mandy is frustrated, and while she takes the compliment of another man finding her attractive, she makes it clear nothing will happen with her and calls Georgie to come pick her up.
She and Georgie discuss how nice it would be to be hanging out with her parents again rather than trying to be out and social. Meanwhile, Georgie comments on how awful teenagers are, proving he is growing up as he has to be a father and husband.
Rating
This series continues to be a solid but not great outing week in and week out. I find myself chuckling at several aspects of the show, yet I never find myself full on belly laughing. It’s not bad at all, it’s just not good enough to keep me laughing.
