SAM'S DAD

Sam’s estranged father comes to visit, but he brings his new girlfriend which causes Patience’s ghost powers to manifest. Meanwhile, Isaac tries to convince Nigel to leave the mansion while Flower and Thor must have an important talk with Nancy.

Sam’s Dad

Sam and Jay spend the first part of the episode preparing for the visit from Sam’s dad. Sam isn’t close to her father and blames him for pulling away following her parents’ divorce. She admits to attention seeking behaviors when she was younger, but during the initial meeting, it seems like Sam and her dad are getting along. However, the revelation that Sam’s dad is not married to his girlfriend causes major issues for Patience, the newest ghost.

Patience causes blood to seep in through the walls at Woodstone Manor. Specifically, she uses the blood to paint the word “sin” on the wall. This leads to a blow-up between Sam and her dad. He accuses her of attention seeking behavior just like when she was younger, while she calls him out for not being around after he and her mother got divorced.

This hits a little low for him, as it’s revealed that he knew she was right, but he only pulled away because her mother threatened to make a scene at events if he showed up. He didn’t want her mother’s behaviors to distract from his daughter’s hard work. The ghosts overhear this and let Sam know what happened so she and her dad can reconcile. The ghosts also help distract Patience by lying about Sam’s dad and his girlfriend getting married. Maybe they should’ve tried that earlier.

Ghostly Problems

Isaac and Nigel have to address their breakup after Isaac left Nigel at the altar in the season three finale. Isaac tries to get Nigel to move out of the mansion and back to the shed where he lived prior to taking up with Isaac. But Isaac is too much of a coward, so he makes a deal with Flower and Thor to address ending their throuple with Nancy while they talk to Nigel. Things go haywire as the conversations are still difficult for all parties involved.

Eventually, the ghosts have to address their own issues rather than relying on each other to take the bullet for them. Isaac, who has promised to be a better person ever since escaping Patience’s underground lair, finally decides to be a bigger person and tries to let Nigel stay in the mansion while he moves to the shed. Meanwhile, Flower and Thor finally break things off with Nancy.

Flower and Thor are back to being a couple like they were prior to the confusion that made the ghosts believe Flower had been sucked off. Thor and Nancy took up with each other with Flower gone and Flower required a throuple for Thor to be with her. Now, that’s done and the pair are back together. Meanwhile, Nigel tells the ghosts he’s headed back to the shed and Isaac can stay in the mansion. This comes about because Nigel’s fellow British soldiers can’t stand Isaac and want their friend back rather than the American soldier.

Rating

This episode focused heavily on perspective. Sam’s perspective was her father was an absentee dad because he wasn’t around. Her dad’s perspective was he protected his daughter by not showing up and her mother making a scene. Still, he missed out on a lot that both would’ve appreciated. Isaac, Thor and Flower try to use the perspective that bad news from someone else would soften the blow, and it blows up in all their faces. Perspective reigns supreme in this episode that ends with Sam finally performing that recital for her father that he missed out on when she was a kid… an awful rendition of Hot Crossed Buns.
