Marvel Films and Series Coming in 2025

Published on 17 November 2024 at 11:50

Marvel has nine properties hitting theaters and Disney Plus in 2025.

this full slate comes not long after Marvel announced a reduction in content and a 2024 that saw one live action film released two theaters, two live action series and will see two animated series once the year wraps. But how excited are we for each of these projects coming in 2025? In this listicle, I’m going to rank the nine properties by my excitement level, and my excitement level only. Remember this list is completely subjective.

9. Eyes of Wakanda

This animated series, with the same animation style as What If…?, is set to be released in August. Marvel executives say this will be the animated project most connected to the MCU at large. While I am excited for the connectivity, I’m not super excited for this project on the whole. While I like the world of Wakanda and the Black Panther storyline, I’m just more interested in a third film or a live action series rather than an animated one

8. Ironheart

I feel bad because this feels like I’m dunking on the Black Panther franchise, but Ironheart doesn’t do much for me. Riri Williams was introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and was a perfectly fine addition. Unfortunately, you could’ve replaced her with generic scientist number two and had the same outcome. If this series were being released closer to that film, I might be more excited, but that film came out in November 2022, and we aren’t seeing the series until June 2025. That’s a long time for excitement to cool down.

7. Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

This is the first 2025 property we’re going to see as it’s set to be released in January. My main reason for ranking it this low is we’ve seen so many animated Spider-Man series that it’s hard to get excited for another one. I grew up on the Fox Animated series of the 1990s and loved it. I hope this is that good, but I have my reservations. Plus, since partnering with Disney and Marvel on live action Spider-Man projects, Sony’s only true superhero success has been the animated Spider-Verse films. This will inevitably be compared to those, and I’m not hopeful it will compare favorably. Let Sony keep making animated Spider-Verse content and just try to get the live action villains away from the company before they release another bad movie.

6. Wonder Man

This is the only live action MCU series that feels different from what we’ve seen previously. This series is setting up what looks like a series within a series with a man playing a superhero. In the comics, Wonder Man has powers, but so far, the previews make it appear like he doesn’t have powers, at least to start. This isn’t coming until December 2025, so we will get a full trailer down the road. That may make me more excited or less excited depending on what I see, but right now, this is a middle of the road project for me.

5. Fantastic Four: First Steps

All three films on this list make my top five, but this is the one I’m least excited to see. Fantastic Four has been tried several times on the big screen and while the films vary wildly in their watchability, none are what we would call “good.” I like the actors who have been cast and am intrigued with how they plan to tell this story. But being burned on these heroes so many times before leaves me more cautiously optimistic than excited.

4. Marvel Zombies

This property is probably the one where I diverge the most from the majority of Marvel fans. I think the majority of online discourse is asking why this series is necessary. We saw zombies in What If…?, and I want to see more of them. This series seems to be disconnected from the rest of the MCU which is both great and terrible. It means you can do anything, but it also means there’s no weight to the heroic actions. Still, this being released in my favorite month of the year, October, makes me hopeful I can add another spooky offering from Marvel to my yearly watchlist.

3. Thunderbolts*

It’s a team of former villains and antiheroes working together. This is being presented, by many, as Marvel’s answer to Suicide Squad, and while there are similarities, I’m more excited for the differences Marvel characters bring compared to DC characters. I’m excited to see Bucky, Yelena and Red Guardian again. I hope I’m more excited for the others once I see them on film. It looks decent and I haven’t been burned by them before, so I’m excited.

2. Captain America: Brave New World

This is the film I’m most excited to see despite it looking like it follows the basic formula Marvel has followed for years. I’m a big fan of Sam Wilson and wanted to see more of him through the films. We got more in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series, but COVID restrictions really hampered parts of that series, and it was easy to spot where and how. Still, Steve gave him the shield and after giving up the mantle at the beginning of the MCU series, Sam took it back up at the end and is ready to be Captain America. Plus, Harrison Ford as Red Hulk has me excited.

1. Daredevil: Born Again

Was there ever any doubt this would top my list? The easy pick for the best of the Netflix series based on the Defenders, every time Daredevil/Matt Murdoch returns is a cause of excitement, whether it’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law or Echo. The ongoing struggle between Daredevil and Wilson Fisk is right at the top of the heap and I can’t wait to see Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio on screen together again.

That’s my list. What’s your ranking? What are you most excited to see?
