A Star is dead

Sam gets a chance to audition for a part in a musical production being held at Woodstone Manor, and Alberta is determined to help her get the part. Meanwhile, Sas thinks he’s dating one of the actors through Jay’s dreams, but he finds out he’s mostly dating Jay.

Sam’s dreams and fear

When the musical theatre group wants to rent out Woodstone Manor for their latest production, Sam and Jay are onboard. It’s a legitimate rental, plus Sam has a love for the theater. It’s hinted she wanted to perform one of the roles in the play being performed back in high school but wound up on the tech side instead. But when the actress who was expected to perform is “no longer with” the group, because she couldn’t get time off work, Sam has a chance to audition.

However, Sam reveals that she got nervous and vomited on the director during her initial audition and was too scared to perform. Alberta wants her to overcome her fear and audition and puts her through a boot camp to prepare Sam for the audition. However, her competition for the role, a woman named Marissa, is really good, and Alberta tries to stack the deck by having Flower Walk through Marissa during her audition. Sam learns of this and becomes very angry that Alberta doesn’t believe in her. The pair talk it out and Alberta realizes she misses the limelight and was hoping to live vicariously through Sam. Sam goes on to nail the audition and get the part all on her own.

Sas, Marissa and Jay

Meanwhile, Sas keeps busting out his ghost power to visit Jay’s dreams. When Jay is accepting an award in his dreams, the girl from the play, Marissa appears. Sas and Marissa hit it off, so Sas keeps returning to Jay’s dreams hoping to see Marissa. Sas is able to convince Sam to make Jay think about Marissa so Sas can date her, but that leads to some odd consequences.

While reliving his dream adventures with Isaac and Pete, Jay talks about all the things he learned from Marissa in Jay’s dreams. Everything she seems to love is also the things Jay loves. The ghosts realize that while the dream person Sas is dating may look like Marissa, she has Jay’s attributes meaning Sas is really dating Jay. This causes major issues for Sas until Pete offers to use his ghost power to get Sas a ghost girlfriend.

Rating

While not as strong as the Halloween episode, Ghosts remains one of the funniest shows on television today. Alberta and Sam shine in this episode as they each look for glory on the stage. It provides the heart of the episode while the Sas, Marissa and Jay storyline provides the laughs.

The only disappointing part of the episode is that Thorfinn isn’t there. Of course, it seems like, at least, one of the ghosts is missing from every episode, and Thorfinn wasn’t important to the story so he didn’t need to be there. He’s just one of the best characters who can make almost any episode better. Still, another strong outing from Ghosts.
